Safe Place

Hi Fabulous Families!  We had a great first few days of second grade!  I wanted to share our class Safe Place with you and the purpose behind it.  The Safe Place is an area of our classroom that students can go to help with composure.  Conscious Discipline encourages children (and adults) to recognize an emotion, to experience the emotion, and to regulate, calm, and decompress.  Mrs. Boofter, our school counselor, and I will be reviewing the breathing strategies (see below) that are posted in our Safe Place.  It also contains a journal, stress ball, stuffed animal, and pillows.  Students may visit the safe place for approximately 5 minutes if the child is upset or missing someone.  They will practice a calming activity such as breathing, journaling, or drawing a picture.
